The club has an extensive research and lending library for members' use, including a large magazine collection including Model Railroader, Railroad Model Craftsman,Trains and many more. The club has recently acquired a large collection of railroad books, VHS tapes and DVD's and a large screen TV for viewing.
The club's address is 5905 Triangle Dr. Raleigh NC. The NRV Club was established 25 years ago in Raleigh as a not-for-profit corporation under the laws of North Carolina. The club maintains permanent layouts in O 3-rail, HO, and soon to be added N scale. Neuse River Valley is on the Move
The Neuse River Valley Model Railroad Club has been in its present
location for many years and has benefited greatly from having some
permanent layouts, a large library and meeting space. Our landlord has
been most gracious and generous in his rent and allowing us to use
other spaces in his building for special events. But all good things
must end.
For several years, we have been on a month to
month lease and have been aware that someone might come along and want
the entire building for their sole use. In the last few months, there
have been several prospective leasees and buyers looking at this
property and the prospect of our lease termination has been imminent.
In light of the above and because our facilities are on the upper
floor, resulting in many of our elderly and handicapped members being
unable to fully enjoy our facilities, the Board of Governors have
undertaken a search for a new home for our club with a goal of moving
by the end of the year.
Should we not be able to secure a
new location by such time, we will place many of the components of our
club in storage and continue the search. The paper and video libraries
will continue to be available to the membership but on a less
accessible basis.
The layouts will be disassembled in
sections and converted to modular use to insure that we can gather and
continue to run trains. Members of the club with home layouts will be
asked to invite small groups from the club to their homes to enjoy the
additional opportunities to run trains and share friendship.
A space will be secured for us to continue to meet monthly to share
fellowship and have programs and keep updated on progress of the new
home search.
Some members will be asked to help upgrade
modules for operation and standardization of wiring, etc. We will seek
out facilities which will allow us to come in for a weekend or longer,
to set up the modules and have operating time.
We have
learned a great deal from our operations at 5905 Triangle Drive and we
believe that this move will provide us an excellent opportunity to
improve every aspect of our club.
We are not folding. We
are not going away. We are getting better. We will continue to do our
annual show at the fairgrounds in November. By the way, this year will
be our largest show yet. If anything, we expect that this will
increase participation.
As always, we want to have fun
running trains and enjoy the fellowship of those who share our
interest. Your continued support and participation will be greatly
rewarded. Stay connected and on track.
